cancer biology

Projects include studies of how specific glycan structures are involved in the transformation of healthy epithelial cells to invasive cancer cells. In addition we explore the use of glycans for micro array strategies searching for tumor specific biomarkers with a particular interest in gastro-intestinal carcinomas. Furthermore we study the use of glycosphingolipids and O-linked glycans to generate vaccine strategies for the treatment of cancer.

Studies include analysis of the large family of polypeptide GalNAc-transferases that initiate O-linked glycosylation.

glycolipids in development
We study how glycosphingolipids impinge on receptor signaling in vivo. We use both drosophila melanogaster and mammalian cell systems in which the glycosphingolipid biosynthetic pathway has been manipulated.
