    Name: Hans H. Wandall
    Nationality: Danish

Current position: Professor, Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. Group leader and Vice-Director, Copenhagen Center for Glycomics, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen

Education and Training: PhD in Glycobiology (2004); Permission to practice independently as a physician (2001); Medical Doctor UCPH (1999)

Scientific Focus: We investigate how glycans impinge on cells during tissue development, host-pathogen interactions with emphasis on viral infections,  and how to exploit this for early detection and treatment of disease. We explore and map glycogenes with new enzymatic technologies to turn genes on and off and identify new causes of disease and establish how glycans influence protein function. In addition, we seek to develop new methods to detect mutations in glycogenes and to investigate what changes these infer on the glycome and cellular processes using novel mass spec technologies.

Professional Experience: PI on several large project grants from the Danish Medical Research Council (FSS), the Danish Cancer Society, and the Lundbeck Foundation the last 8 years. Heads the GlycoMedicine Group and is co-PI on the Copenhagen Center for Glycomics funded from the Danish National Research Foundation. Translational experience from Harvard Medical School and biotech. Established Copenhagen Consortium for Designer Organisms (CDO: cdo.ku.dk); a knowledge center on precise genetic engineering of cells and organisms funded from an inter disciplinary Excellence Program at the Health Science Faculty of University of Copenhagen.

Academic Activities:  Board memberships: Board of Directors, Society for Glycobiology, Member of the Prize committee, The KFJ Prize (2016-); Member of the Prize committee, The Sonning Prize (2016-); Magda Sofie og Aase Lütz's Mindelegat (2015-); Member of the Art Competition Group of The Mærsk Building (2016-2021); Chairman of the Art Committee, The Faculty of Health Sciences (2015-), Member of the Board of Jakobinerklubben (2016-2021). Editorial Board of Glycobiology.

Organization of Meetings: Precise Genome Editing Technologies, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Glycobiology Society Annual Meeting, NIH satellite meeting, San Fran, Dec. 2015; Glycobiology Society Annual Meeting, NIH satellite meeting, New Orleans, Dec. 2016; Annual Meetings, Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, UoC, 2006-2016; The Benzon Symposium, 2018, Glycobiology Society Annual Meeting 2019 and 2021.
