Expansion of Center for Gene Expression
In 2025, we welcomed Fena Ochs and Niels Erik Møllegaard and their laboratories to Center for Gene Expression at ICMM. Their labs strengthen CGEN’s interdisciplinary profile, and they are valuable contributors to our Center of Excellence.
Fena Ochs relocated to the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine in September 2025, and she brings unique expertise in 3D chromatin organization and its role in gene regulation, DNA repair, and cell division. Her research connects chromatin architecture with functional processes, and she develops and applies cutting-edge super-resolution imaging technologies - including the first super-resolution microscopy approach for single-molecule imaging in intact cells and on 3D chromatin. Her contribution to CGEN integrates structural and functional insights into gene expression.
Niels Erik Møllegård has been affiliated with CGEN since 2024, and he and his laboratory are now fully integrated into the center. His expertise is in genome structure and DNA helix conformation. By employing powerful DNA structure probing methods, high-throughput genome sequencing, and advanced bioinformatics tools, his group aims to uncover the functional significance of DNA architecture across the genome, which also complements CGEN’s focus on gene expression.
