Official Opening of the Copenhagen Center for Glycocalyx Research
On 9 October 2025, the new Copenhagen Center for Glycocalyx Research was officially opened with a program of speeches and a reception at the center’s facilities in the Maersk Tower.
Center Director Hans H. Wandall welcomed all guests, followed by contributions from Dorthe Dahl-Jensen, Chair of the Danish National Research Foundation, and Hans Braüner, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.
Associate Professor Katrine Schjoldager, Associate Professor Adnan Halim, and Jesper Velgaard Olsen, Executive Director of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, also contributed with their perspectives on the importance of the new center.
Supported by the Danish National Research Foundation
The center is supported by the Danish National Research Foundation with a grant of 59,999,000 DKK.
The center’s aim is to redefine how the cell membrane is organized and functions, and how glycans are key to shaping a dynamic yet stable cell membrane that ensures cellular and tissue stability and health. This groundbreaking and innovative research will help maintain Denmark’s position as one of the world’s leading research countries.
